How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
Psalm 36:7

When Wilbur was a little boy, his dad brought home a rubber band-powered toy helicopter. He played with it until it fell apart, never imagining that one day he would design and fly, not a toy, but a real plane. Even when Wilbur was older and did dare imagine, his imagination didn’t match up to the exhilaration of gliding through the sky.

When Bart was a little kid growing up in east Texas, he never imagined he would grow up to compose America’s best-selling Christian single. Yet in March of this year, his song I Can Only Imagine had sold 2.5 million digital copies.

Some things you can only imagine. And even if you try really, really hard to imagine, God has a way of leaving your imagination in the dust because he IS and can DO infinitely more than your boldest dreams (Ephesians 3:20).

Kids love to imagine. Once in awhile we ought to just set aside the Bible lesson or devotional or story, and let them dream big and limitless. Especially when it comes to God’s love.

God’s love is like the most amazing day you never want to end,
the laughter you never want to stop,
the sky that has no limits and
the ocean shore that seems to stretch on and on.

It’s so incredible that it’s unknowable but at the same time so important, we HAVE to know it (Ephesians 3:18-19).

So here are a few imagination questions that will get your kids’ imaginations, and hopefully yours as well, imagining just how incredible God’s love is.

If God’s love were a color, what color would it be and why?

If you counted all the times God said to himself, “Wow, I really love her/him”, how many thoughts would there be? (Psalm 139:17-19)

How wide and deep is God’s love?

If you could soar as high as you wanted, when would you reach the end of God’s love? (Psalm 36:5)

And then just for fun…when you’re standing in the shower tonight or racing through a sprinkler this summer, pretend that water is like God’s love running over your head, streaking down your face and reaching all the way to your toes. What would it feel like to be covered up and soaked all the way through with God’s love?

God’s love for you is amazing!
His love for the world is endless!
